Beethoven for All — the complete string quartets for free, in celebration of Da Camera’s 30th anniversary season

Da Camera presents an educational concert experience designed to engage the entire family. The Calliope String Quartet uses Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 3 in D Major, Op. 18, No. 3 to show the important roles teamwork and empathy play in the performance of chamber music.

The Houston-based Calliope String Quartet takes inspiration in its namesake, the Greek muse of eloquence and epic poetry, whose name translates to “beautifully-voiced.” Formed in 2014 by graduates of the Shepherd and Moores Schools of Music, the quartet was drawn together by a collective passion for chamber music and desire to explore the string quartet repertoire. The musicians of the quartet are violinists Laura Cividino and Hannah Watson, violist Rainey Weber and cellist Annamarie Reader.

Members of Calliope String Quartet can be seen performing with some of Houston’s leading arts organizations, such as the Houston Symphony Orchestra, Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet, Mercury, River Oaks Chamber Orchestra and Da Camera. The Calliope String Quartet has performed for a variety of Houston audiences, including the Italian Consulate of Houston, and in 2015, they completed their first European tour, performing in Slovenia and Austria as well as appearing as faculty at the Musica Giovani Festival in Majano, Italy.

This program is supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
